Laura Bianchi is a current third-year student pursuing her Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She graduated from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in 2022 with her B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Philosophy. Her undergraduate research focused on the construction of species distribution models, approaches to defining elusive biological concepts, and the development of social norms in non-human animal populations. Her current research interests are in Ethics of Data and AI, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Education. In particular, she is interested in the ethical use of risk assessment instruments to prevent harm in the criminal justice and education sectors. She has been passionate about the arts (vocal and theatre performance) since kindergarten and has recently dedicated her attention to honing her mini-golf skills. Laura is a McNair Scholars Program alumnus and takes pride in her role as a McNair Scholar mentor. She is dedicated to fostering kindness in her community and finds student-mentorship to be the most fulfilling part of her experience in academia.
